Founded in 1937, the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) is the plastics industry trade association representing the third largest manufacturing industry in the United States. SPI's member companies represent the entire plastics industry supply chain, including processors, machinery and equipment manufacturers and raw materials suppliers.
SPI created and launched the Operation Clean Sweep program in 1992 to help the industry implement good housekeeping and pellet containment practices to work towards achieving zero pellet discharge. In addition, SPI is a signatory to the “Declaration for Solutions on Marine Litter” and committed to work collectively with organizations around the globe to address the issue of marine debris.
